Artifacts

Reflect
The artifacts, the love and logic and the case study on child guidance, are related to Standard 6 by discussing and learning about nonverbal and verbal ways of communicating to students that will support the students interaction in the classroom. The first artifact is a Love and Logic seminar in which I attented where they discussed effective ways to achieve classroom management by communiticating verbally and non verbally to your students. The artifact demostrates my ability to discover information that will help me spend more time teaching and less time focusing on on the wrong doings of the students. The artifact allowed me as an attendi to ask question and be involved on a supportive seminar that will help me solve problems that are discouraging from learning and being focused in the classroom.
The second artifact is a case study on child guidance during an observation I administered in the Child development lab in the university. There were several topics in which I had to observe, but one of the things I had to observe were how the use of non verbal and verbal communication where done shown in the classroom. Through my observation I was able to observe how the teachers were active listeners with the students. The teacher paid attention to what the students were communicating to them and the teacher responded by letting the student know that she understood how the student felt and asured them that the issue would get better. This artifact shows the teacher is paying attention and being a thoughtful listener to the needs of her students and responding to them in a show her students that she understands how the students feel and explains to them how the issue will be solved. Being active listeners and communicating to your students verbally on non verbally allows problem solving skills that will foster collaboration, active inquiry, and supportive interaction within the classroom.

Project
The artifacts, the love and logic seminar and child guidance observation, demonstrates the type of learner I am through my participation in the seminar and in my observation. Both artifacts allowed me to see that teachers have to be active listeners and be able to listen to what the students are communicating before you can verbally communicate with them. The love and logic seminar has helped see how simple hand gestures or body movements can be just as effective as speaking to students. This seminar has prepared me on how to manage my classroom by using verbal and nonverbal communication with my students. Verbalizing to students that they have a choices when being disruptive in class or a simple hand on their shoulder will lead to the same outcome, which would be for them to stop and be focused in class. I am becoming a more attentive teacher that listens to her students needs as well as finding the correct way of communicating to them to get the problem solved. I am also becoming an on task teacher who is focusing more on teaching than on students who are being disruptive in class. Just because one student is being disruptive in class it isn't fair for the rest of the students to stop from learning because the teacher has to stop and take care of the disruptive student.
These artifacts will help me as a teacher introduce different communication techniques to my students so they can also be aware how you can understand and communicate using non verbal and verbal ways. Students understanding of communication will enable them to communicate more effectively with thier peers allowing more interaction and collaboration in the classroom that will support thier learning.
